Business BIN statistics.
Commercial and premium cards are issued on their own numbering ranges so that a processor can identify them before authorisation. This page covers the product-tier ranges tracked in the directory — 6 of 33 carry a named tier — and explains what separates a business BIN from a consumer one.

What makes a BIN commercial
Nothing about the digits themselves marks a range as commercial. A business BIN sits inside the same network blocks as everything else — a business Visa still starts with 4. What makes it commercial is the product classification the issuer registers against that range with the network.
That registration is what processors read. It determines the interchange category, the data the card can carry, and the fraud rules applied to it. Two cards with almost identical numbers can be priced completely differently at checkout because one range is registered as consumer and the other as commercial.
- Business — small business cards, usually credit, with commercial interchange.
- Corporate — issued by larger organisations to employees, with central billing and reporting.
- Purchasing — procurement cards built for supplier payments and Level 3 data.
- Fleet — restricted to fuel and vehicle spend, often with merchant category controls.
Why the distinction matters at checkout
For merchants, commercial cards are more expensive to accept. Interchange on commercial ranges is set above consumer rates, so a B2B business processing mostly corporate cards carries a materially higher cost of acceptance than a consumer retailer doing the same volume.
For cardholders, the classification affects where a card works. Some consumer-facing platforms restrict or decline commercial cards, while some B2B suppliers accept nothing else. Checking the BIN before committing to a payment method avoids a decline at the worst possible moment.
Why teams run cards across multiple BINs
Businesses that spend heavily online — particularly on advertising platforms — often split spend across cards on different BINs. Platforms score each BIN independently for risk, so concentrating everything on one range means a single decline or review can freeze all of it at once.
Spreading spend across several cards contains that risk and makes reconciliation cleaner, since each card maps to one platform, campaign or supplier. It is a routine operational practice, not a workaround.
Methodology
Tier figures are computed automatically from Kripicard's curated BIN directory of 33 publicly documented issuer ranges across 7 countries. The named tiers tracked in this dataset are predominantly premium consumer products such as Signature, Infinite, World and World Elite; the directory does not currently carry a dedicated commercial-card sample, so the tables above should be read as a view of how product tiers are separated at the numbering level rather than as a count of business BINs in circulation. The descriptions of commercial card categories, interchange treatment and Level 2/3 data reflect published card-network product rules. A live lookup returns the registered product tier for an individual card where the issuer publishes it.
Frequently asked questions
What is a business BIN?
A business or commercial BIN is a numbering range an issuer reserves for cards issued to companies rather than individuals. Because the range is separate, a processor can tell a corporate card from a consumer card from the first six to eight digits, before the transaction is authorised.
How can I tell if a card is a business card?
Run the BIN through a lookup. Where the issuer publishes it, the product tier is returned alongside the issuer and country — commercial products are typically labelled Business, Corporate, Purchasing or Fleet. The card design alone is not a reliable indicator.
Why do commercial cards cost merchants more?
Commercial interchange rates are set higher than consumer rates because business cards carry larger average transaction values, richer data requirements and different risk characteristics. Merchants see the difference in their processing fees, which is why some surcharge commercial cards where local rules allow it.
What is Level 2 and Level 3 data?
Commercial cards can pass extra transaction detail — tax amounts, purchase order numbers and line-item data — known as Level 2 and Level 3 data. Providing it can qualify a merchant for lower commercial interchange rates, which is a common reason B2B processors ask for it.
Are premium consumer cards the same as business cards?
No. Tiers such as Visa Signature, Visa Infinite, World Mastercard and World Elite Mastercard are premium consumer products. They sit on their own ranges and carry higher interchange than standard consumer cards, but they are not commercial products and do not carry commercial interchange or Level 3 data capability.
Can a business use Kripicard virtual cards?
Yes. Kripicard offers business accounts with multiple virtual cards, per-card spending controls and multi-BIN issuance, which teams commonly use to separate advertising spend, subscriptions and supplier payments across distinct cards.
