Temporarily disabling a card so it cannot be used, then re-enabling it — a key security control.

Freezing a card instantly blocks new transactions without closing the account, and unfreezing restores it. It is a fast way to stop a card you think may be compromised.
Virtual cards make freeze and unfreeze instant from an app, and a compromised card can simply be deleted and reissued in seconds.
