A card's brand — the payment network it runs on — is determined by its leading digits. Visa cards begin with 4, Mastercard with 51–55 or 2221–2720, American Express with 34 or 37, Discover with 6011/65, JCB with 3528–3589 and Diners Club with 300–305/36/38.
