Card networks hold the authoritative BIN tables and do not publish them. Everything public — including this directory — is assembled from open registry data contributed and corrected over time. That is worth stating plainly, because a directory that implies completeness it does not have is worse than a smaller one that is honest about its edges.
The ranges here come from an open BIN dataset, normalised into consistent country, network, issuer and card-type fields. We spot-check it against an independent issuer API: on the sample we validated, country, network and issuer name matched on every record where the second source held one — though that source itself only had records for roughly 15% of the BINs we tried, which tells you how thin public coverage really is.
Two datasets sit behind these pages. The browsable directory is capped per country so no single market floods the listings, giving the 52,065 ranges you can navigate here. The lookup tool queries a separate uncapped index of roughly 165,000 BINs, which is why a number can resolve there without appearing in these browse pages.
Coverage is also uneven by design of the underlying data, not by choice. Large markets like the United States and United Kingdom are well represented; smaller territories may have only a handful of ranges on record. Issuer names reflect the registry at the time of generation, so a bank that has since merged or rebranded can appear under its former name.
