What does a BIN checker do?

A BIN checker takes the first 6 to 8 digits of a payment card — the Bank Identification Number — and resolves them against public issuer registries. In seconds you learn which bank issued the card, the country of issuance, the card scheme (Visa, Mastercard, Amex, Discover, JCB or Diners) and whether it is a credit, debit or prepaid product.

Merchants and fraud teams use BIN checkers to validate that a card's metadata matches the customer's stated country, to route transactions, and to flag mismatches that can indicate fraud. Developers use them to localize checkout and decide which card products to accept.
